Calgon Activated Carbons
CENTAUR CATALYTIC/ADSORPTIVE CARBON
CENTAUR® 12X40 is a liquid phase virgin activated carbon that has been manufactured to
develop catalytic functionality. The product is unique in that it concentrates reactants via
adsorption and then promotes their reaction on the surface of the pores. CENTAUR 12x40 is
produced from bituminous coal using a patented process. Although it is not impregnated with
metals or alkali, it displays the catalytic functionality of these materials. In most cases, it can be
reactivated and does not present the disposal concerns associated with impregnated carbons.
CENTAUR 12X40 can be utilized in the liquid phase for the promotion of oxidation, reduction,
decomposition, substitution, and elimination reactions. Specific applications include
chloramine, hydrogen sulfide, and iron removal from drinking water. This product is particularly
suited for use in residential and commercial water filters, for treatment of process water in
the bottling and soft drink industries, and for aquarium water treatment. CENTAUR 12x40
combines a fine pore structure for enhanced adsorption of trace contaminants with high
catalytic activity for their elimination. Thermal reactivation is an option for recycle and
reuse of this product to minimize operating costs and eliminate disposal concerns.
CENTAUR 12x40 is intended primarily for use in liquid phase systems to promote catalytic reactions.
Depending on the reactant concentrations, the required contact times are usually less than five
minutes. The back-washed and drained density of the product is typically 33 lb/ft3.

FILTRASORB 200
CENTAUR ACTIVATED CARBON - COCONUT SHELL
CENTAUR-CS 12x40 removes both chloramine and hydrogen sulphide from
potable water. Centaur is outstanding in Voc removal, taste and odor control and
in operating efficiency when compared with traditional activated carbons.
Standard Centaur is a coal based catalytic carbon, this Centaur is entirely coconut shell carbon and is
processed the same as the original giving it the same properties. The coconut shell variety as with all
coconut shell carbon doesn't have the same capacity as the original, but it does give an economical
option.

FILTRASORB 200 BITUMINOUS COAL ACTIVATED CARBON
FILTRASORB® 200 is a granular acid rinsed activated carbon for the removal of
taste and odor compounds, disinfection by-products, low level volatile organic
compounds, and other targeted compounds from potable water.
This product was specifically developed for groundwater applications. This activated carbon is
manufactured from selected grades of bituminous coal to produce a durable granular product capable
of withstanding the abrasion associated with repeated back-washing, air scouring, and hydraulic
transport. The product is designed to comply with all the applicable provisions of the AWWA Standard
for Granular Activated Carbon, edition B604-05, the stringent extractable requirements of ANSI/NSF
Standard 61, and the Food Chemicals Codex.

Calgon Carbon produces and sells a broad range of activated, impregnated or acid washed carbons
in granular, powdered or pellet form. Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) particles are irregular
in shape and generally used in fixed filter beds for continuous flow purification processes.
