IRS Take Your Social
Security Benefits?
Maybe! This is a valid concern, as the IRS can levy a
taxpayer’s Social Security Benefits.
Fortunately, levying Social Security Benefits is not the
first thing the IRS will do when attempting to collect
taxes ... but they will if you leave them no choice.
If you work with the IRS (even a little bit) to remedy
your tax problems, the IRS will be less likely to levy
your Social Security Benefits. If your Social Security
Benefits are already levied, the IRS may release or
remove the levy because of your cooperation.
The only reason the IRS would ever levy your Social
Security Benefits is if you owed taxes or penalties and
interest for back taxes. The IRS does not levy you for
failing to make your current year’s estimated taxes if
you are supposed to make such payments.

apply for Social Security Benefits -and you know you
