Land & Garden Preserve Biennial Report 2022-2023 - Magazine - Page 3
I grew up visiting the three gardens, hiking up Eliot Mountain, and playing
around the Boathouse at Little Long Pond. One of my earliest memories is the
sound of dropping pennies in the wishing well at Thuya and watching the coins
swim down to the granite below.
The importance of our experiences in the Preserve comes from the strong connection we
make and feel here. For many of us these special places evoke childhood memories, while they also
provide us with the opportunity to witness them becoming special to future generations.
Like many of you, the places in the Preserve serve as conduits to meaning for me. What follows in
this report are stories of connection – between the Preserve and the people who love it, connection
with our community, our lands, and our stewards, past and present.
We who love these gardens and natural lands have an enduring connection, from those who tend
the 昀氀ower beds, consider the strategic plan, become members – everyone 昀椀nds meaning here. I see
the stewardship of the Preserve over time as a woven fabric of continuity and care. It is a beautiful
bond between people and places over time.
On behalf of the Preserve, I want to thank you for staying connected. It all matters. We are very
grateful that you are here with us.
