STEWARDSHIP
The Preserve is grateful for the amazing legacy that has been passed
on to us. We feel a powerful connection and commitment to honor
the original stewards of these places and create our own cultural,
natural, and historical heritage for future generations.
We are in the early stages of implementing our Framework Plan – a comprehensive
set of projects that will guide the operations and stewardship of the Preserve’s
lands and gardens. In creating this plan, we drew on the passion and intelligence
of those who loved these lands for generations – the indigenous people, the
rusticators, and visionary families.
Today’s stewards work with that same passion. They honor the creativity and
conservation philosophies of those who came before them – the artistry of
Beatrix Farrand, the dedication of Charles Savage, the vision of Joseph Curtis,
and the generosity of the Rockefeller family.
Abby Garden Manager Erin Dilworth, Thuya Garden Head Gardener Wendy
Dolliver, Asticou Azalea Garden Manager Mary Roper, and Thuya Garden
Manager Rick LeDuc are just a few Preserve staff who are entrusted with the
care of these landscapes.
“Share” is prominently featured in our mission statement. We do not want to
keep valuable knowledge to ourselves. This is why we continue to expand our
educational opportunities. We hope to engage and inspire people, just as we
have been.
