Legacy Gift Spotlight:
Kal and Ellen Heller
Leave Your Legacy at
JCC Greater Boston
We are pleased to announce the formal
launch of the 1983 Society as we approach
the 40th anniversary of JCC Greater Boston.
This estate society will celebrate life-long
commitments to the JCC and honor those
who have chosen to leave a legacy for the
next generation.
The passing of our values from one
generation to the next is one of the most
fundamental tenets of Judaism. We lead
by example. We teach. We tell stories that
reflect our values. And we give.
Growing up in the 1950s and ‘60s, Kal and Ellen Heller knew
that being Jewish was important, even though they didn’t
love synagogue. They took pride in their Jewish identities
and understood what it meant to fit in, stand out, and feel
culturally at ease.
Decades later in 1987, when Kal and Ellen were searching for
a Jewish home in Boston, a friend recommended they join
the JCC. Initially, they joined so Kal could play basketball
with local Jewish men. But not long after, the Hellers’
involvement expanded beyond the basketball court. They
grew to love the JCC’s programs for young families and the
myriad opportunities for kids with special needs. Soon, Kal
found himself serving on committees, joining the board, and
eventually becoming the board president.
When it came time for Kal and Ellen to write their wills, they
didn’t think twice about making a legacy gift to JCC Greater
Boston. The sense of Jewish belonging they have felt at the
JCC for decades was a gift they wanted to give and nourish
for future generations.
Leaving an estate gift to JCC Greater Boston
ensures that those who come after you will
have the opportunity for the same enriching
experiences you’ve had, and allows you
to share your values directly with the next
generation.

Invest in a vibrant and evolving
Jewish community where
everyone belongs.
I think JCC Greater Boston is the
heartbeat of the Jewish community
in Boston and a model for other JCCs
across the country. We hope it will
continue to represent the very best of
what Jewish life can offer.”
