A New Model for Senior Living on
the Leventhal-Sidman Campus
A Place for Belonging: The Men’s
Health Center
In March, our friends at 2Life Communities broke
ground on Opus, a middle-income senior living
development located on JCC Greater Boston’s campus.
The groundbreaking took place a year ahead of
schedule, with 95% of the 174 available apartments
already pre-sold.
Since its founding in 1983, the Men’s Health Center has
served as a full-functioning fitness club — complete with
elliptical machines, a steam room, pool table, and massage
treatments. Beyond the amenities themselves, the Center
is a source of connection and camaraderie for everyone
who walks through its doors. Hank Abbott, Larry Barron
and Marty Hoffman cannot imagine what their lives would
be like without it. For more than 3 decades, these men
have spent their mornings at the Men’s Health Center,
followed by a leisurely breakfast together.
Designed to address the growing needs of middleincome seniors across the United States, Opus will
provide an energizing retirement alternative where
seniors can remain close to the neighborhoods and
people they love. JCC Greater Boston is proud to
partner with 2Life to ensure that 333 Nahanton Street
remains a vibrant and robust place for people of
every generation.
It’s truly a place where we belong; we
feel a real sense of brotherhood here.”
— Marty Hoffman, MHC Member
Core to the experience at the Men’s Health Center is the
idea that members can come as they are and be their
full selves at any stage of life. As the JCC’s demographics
continue to evolve, the Men’s Health Center is dedicated
to embracing men of all ages and generations — because
we all deserve a place to care for our minds, bodies, and
spirits in community.
For many people our age, getting older
can feel lonely or isolating. But for
us, we’ve always felt connected and
embraced. We have people we can count
on during times of celebration and times
of sadness, and that’s because of our
community at the Men’s Health Center.”
