Renovating Our Spaces To
Reflect Our Values
Creating a Space Just for Teens
In many community institutions, the teen lounge is located in a dark,
windowless basement, next to an old bathroom that hasn’t been
properly maintained. Often, the couches and chairs are hand-medowns, and the teens themselves have very little say in how their space
is outfitted. At JCC Greater Boston, we’re taking a different approach
to teen engagement. Thanks to a $25,000 annual gift from a generous
donor, our new teen space will be located in the lobby of the main
building — entirely integrated with the broader community center.
Our new teen space will be a hub for inclusivity,
fun, and belonging. It will have everything teens need
in order to feel affirmed, connected, and grounded —
whether they’re hanging out, eating pizza, playing pick-up
basketball, or doing homework together after school.”
