HAPPY TAILS
Here at HSSC, nothing gets our tails wagging more than
helping animals 昀椀nd loving homes… and keeping them
there! As we continue to expand our role as a resource
hub for the community, we are placing an emphasis on
our safety net programs aimed at helping people and their
pets stay together. One of these crucial programs is our
Community Veterinary Clinic!
By providing urgent veterinary care on a sliding scale for
low- to no-income pet guardians, our CVC is relieving worry,
nurturing the human/animal bond and helping pets live
their healthiest, happiest lives – with the families who love
them. Just like our popular adoption updates that we
a昀昀ectionately call Happy Tails, we believe that each pet
who comes to our CVC has their own “Happy Tail” to be
told. Here are a couple of recent “tails” that demonstrate
just how much this program means for pets and their
people.
TINY TIM
Tiny Tim came to us with a big problem. His owners
weren’t sure how their little pup injured his eye, but they
knew he was experiencing discomfort. His eye had been
bulging for over 24 hours and it was clear that immediate
action was needed. But they faced a daunting obstacle:
the cost of surgery. Their beloved pet was in pain, and
they needed help.
That’s when Tiny Tim and his family were referred to us by
their regular vet. Our CVC team was able to get Tiny Tim in
the very next day and provide the care he so desperately
needed. In addition to his eye surgery, they provided neuter
services at the same time.
Despite the pain he must have been in, our tiny friend was
remarkably sweet and patient throughout his entire procedure.
His mom, understandably worried and concerned about
her furry family member, was immensely grateful for the
services provided by the CVC!
UTAH
Imagine your pet in intense pain and rushing them to an
emergency clinic for treatment. Now imagine the treatment
wiped out a signi昀椀cant chunk of your savings but was only
a temporary stopgap. This was the disconcerting situation
Utah’s guardian faced. After having their beloved threeyear-old tuxedo cat treated for a painful urinary obstruction,
they knew it was only a matter of time before he would
become blocked again. Our CVC team was able to get him
in for corrective surgery to reduce the likelihood of future
obstructions and complications. During Utah’s surgery,
our veterinarian discovered a small bladder stone in
his urethra, which likely caused the obstruction. Utah’s
surgery and recovery went very smoothly. Our CVC team
ran a blood chemistry panel and urinalysis and discovered Utah had a urinary tract infection. Easily treated with
a long-acting antibiotic injection, Utah and his devoted
companion breathed a big sigh of relief, hearts full of
gratitude for our wonderful CVC team.

RESCUE PARTNERS
A RESOURCE FOR OUR
COMMUNITY
THANK YOU!
This year, our CVC is on pace to not only meet but exceed
the number of pets we helped last year! It takes all of us
working together to make this happen for people and their
pets. This year we’d like to thank Community Foundation
Sonoma County, Grey Muzzle Organization, Petco Love,
Ban昀椀eld Foundation, SAGE Compassion for Animals, Pets
for the Elderly Foundation and YOU for helping sustain our
CVC as a vital resource for pet guardians and their beloved
companions.
