CVCHAPPY TAILSHere at HSSC, nothing gets our tails wagging more thanhelping animals 昀椀nd loving homes… and keeping themthere! As we continue to expand our role as a resourcehub for the community, we are placing an emphasis onour safety net programs aimed at helping people and theirpets stay together. One of these crucial programs is ourCommunity Veterinary Clinic!By providing urgent veterinary care on a sliding scale forlow- to no-income pet guardians, our CVC is relieving worry, nurturing the human/animal bond and helping pets livetheir healthiest, happiest lives – with the families who lovethem. Just like our popular adoption updates that wea昀昀ectionately call Happy Tails, we believe that each petwho comes to our CVC has their own “Happy Tail” to betold. Here are a couple of recent “tails” that demonstratejust how much this program means for pets and theirpeople.TINY TIMTiny Tim came to us with a big problem. His ownersweren’t sure how their little pup injured his eye, but theyknew he was experiencing discomfort. His eye had beenbulging for over 24 hours and it was clear that immediateaction was needed. But they faced a daunting obstacle:the cost of surgery. Their beloved pet was in pain, andthey needed help. That’s when Tiny Tim and his family were referred to us bytheir regular vet. Our CVC team was able to get Tiny Tim inthe very next day and provide the care he so desperatelyneeded. In addition to his eye surgery, they provided neuterservices at the same time.Despite the pain he must have been in, our tiny friend wasremarkably sweet and patient throughout his entire procedure. His mom, understandably worried and concerned abouther furry family member, was immensely grateful for theservices provided by the CVC!UTAHImagine your pet in intense pain and rushing them to anemergency clinic for treatment. Now imagine the treatmentwiped out a signi昀椀cant chunk of your savings but was onlya temporary stopgap. This was the disconcerting situationUtah’s guardian faced. After having their beloved threeyear-old tuxedo cat treated for a painful urinary obstruction, they knew it was only a matter of time before he wouldbecome blocked again. Our CVC team was able to get himin for corrective surgery to reduce the likelihood of futureobstructions and complications. During Utah’s surgery, our veterinarian discovered a small bladder stone inhis urethra, which likely caused the obstruction. Utah’ssurgery and recovery went very smoothly. Our CVC teamran a blood chemistry panel and urinalysis and discovered Utah had a urinary tract infection. Easily treated witha long-acting antibiotic injection, Utah and his devotedcompanion breathed a big sigh of relief, hearts full ofgratitude for our wonderful CVC team.A RESOURCE FOR OURRESCUE PARTNERSA RESOURCE FOR OURCOMMUNITYTHANK YOU!This year, our CVC is on pace to not only meet but exceedthe number of pets we helped last year!
