2021-2022 Community Impact Report - Report - Page 19
What began 29 years ago with one family’s surprise delivery of eight Thanksgiving baskets, packed in their
own living room, to unsuspecting area families has grown into one of the longest standing and largest
volunteer projects in our community.
Founded in 1993, the Gig Harbor Basket Brigade (GHBB) became a program of the Greater Gig Harbor
Foundation in 2012.
CELEBRATING
29 YEARS
Each year, founder David Cathers and the GHBB team has found a way to “make it happen” even during the
height of the pandemic! While we were not able to gather hundreds of people to join in preparing and
delivering baskets in 2020 and 2021, we did safely and personally deliver more than 750 gift cards in each
of these years to help families buy essential ingredients for their Thanksgiving meal.
2022 marked the Brigade’s 29th year and the return of GHBB live! Our Gig Harbor Basket Brigade is a fun,
family-friendly event where sponsors, donors and community volunteers of all ages come together to
package, decorate, and personally deliver Thanksgiving baskets to local families
in need, and area military families. Over the course of the 2-day operation,
nearly 450 amazing people again joined forces to help assure neighbors in
need were able to celebrate the holiday with their loved ones. Thank you!
Sincere thanks to the GHBB Committee and to our 2022 lead sponsors
Albertsons and Latitude 47 Commerce Center, who together with
numerous local businesses, schools, and organizations, and hundreds
of helping hands, made the 29th annual Basket Brigade possible.
