Virtual Job Connection Center
Making Connections
As we responded to the pandemic throughout 2020, our hearts were with our
greater Houston community. Unemployment rates in the area peaked in April
at 14.3% – with thousands more losing hours and uncertain of their future
employment.
We knew that despite needing to keep our physical Job Connection Center
locations closed, we could not pause our services. Our teams worked quickly
to transition our job fairs, orientations, classes, one-on-one counseling, skills
trainings and graduations online. By September, we’d completed in just a few
short months what had been a longstanding goal – a full-service Virtual Job
Connection Center. Our new platform, hosted on Goodwillhouston.org, allows
anyone in need to access our programs and services as well as see the fantastic
services available through our partners. However, our work doesn’t stop there;
our goal is to continue to expand the platform, offering services for businesses,
faith-based organizations, community groups, and integrating new technologies
to make getting help as easy as possible.
It is often said that necessity is the mother of invention, and we are proud that,
even through the dark days of the pandemic, our team has found new ways to
move our mission forward.
