AFTERMATH CONSEQUENCES
Aftermath consequences frequently experienced by disabled veterans and other groups are shown in
the graphic on the opposite page. Unfortunately, individuals struggle with many of these
simultaneously. Dealing with these challenges is made much harder on the individual and family not
simply because they deal with them simultaneously, but because of the complex nature of these
issues impacting one another. Some examples:
• Financial pressure creates mental anxiety, which impacts blood pressure and relationships
• Improper diet is a contributing factor in depression
• Physiological hypersensitivity
creates mental stress, which can
lead to physical ailments
including heart disease
• Guilt adversely impacts the
heart or inner spirit, which can
lead to sleeplessness and
physical sickness
• Depression can contribute to
substance abuse, which impacts
the body physically, personal
finances, and relationships
• Financial stress can create
marital strife, which contribute
to suicide
