URGENT NEEDS
While this brochure focuses on disabled veterans, it is important to provide important background
material on the needs of people and our overall approach to ministering to them.
Sadly, many people groups experience traumatic events or sustained stress. Some of these groups
include veterans, first responders, foster families, missionaries, pastors, and others. Their triggering
experiences vary, but they all experience a common set of intertwined aftermath consequences, often
including much higher rates of: mental health problems such as post-traumatic stress disorder
(PTSD), professional burnout, financial stress, depression, and suicide; physical health issues
including high blood pressure, alcoholism, drug abuse, and heart disease; spiritual health
challenges including moral dilemmas and moral injury; and, relational health problems such as
divorce. Aftermath trends are bad and, in some cases, worsening, despite billions of dollars spent annually
by various government agencies.
