FACILITIES
As we look to the future, we seek to establish a facility dedicated to veterans, especially disabled
veterans and their unique needs. This will either be an existing facility purchased and modified as
necessary or—if the Lord provides—construction of a new facility using gold standard designs for
disabled veteran care and support. One location in particular stands out—Tampa, Florida—where
there exist great opportunities to address the needs of disabled veterans and their families. In
addition to great weather and an area proven to be very supportive of veterans, two of the military’s
largest organizations involving much of the combat seen in the past 20 years are headquartered in
Tampa: U.S. Central Command, and U.S. Special Operations Command. Many disabled veterans
are located in the Southeast including Florida due to their military service there and finding medical
care at the Tampa SCI/D and/or Polytrauma Center following their service injury. Additionally,
other disabled veterans locate in the area simply due to the favorable climate.
Further, disabled vets are treated
initially at these VA facilities
following their injury and return
regularly for treatment and
physicals. Placing our facility
here will allow Forward Free to
not only serve many disabled
veterans, but to also provide a new
and exciting alternative to respite
care so their daily caregiver can
have a much-needed break.
