Developmental Disabilities Service Provider Boards
Ø Where appropriate, there may be developmental disabilities service providing agencies
(e.g., Goodwill, Easter Seals) that have opportunities for involvement of people with
disabilities on their boards. To see if your developmental disabilities service provider
agency has a board involvement or other leadership opportunity, you may contact them
directly.

Disability Rights Florida – Board of Directors
Ø “Disability Rights Florida (DRF) is seeking leaders in disability rights and/or disability
advocacy and services to join its Board of Directors. DRF is a statewide, federally
mandated protection and advocacy system for persons with disabilities. Funded through
nine federal grants, the nonprofit provides legal advocacy and rights protection for
adults and children with a wide range of disabilities. The agency employs approximately
95 staff members located throughout the state and in four offices in Tallahassee,
Gainesville, Tampa and Hollywood. Disability Rights Florida is governed by a 15-member
Board that meets four times a year and is comprised of a variety of professionals,
individuals with disabilities, disability advocates and others from all geographic areas of
the state. The DRF Board actively recruits members with varied backgrounds in a
focused effort to accurately represent Florida’s diverse population and demographics.”

Family Café - Board of Directors
Ø “The Family Café exists to provide individuals with disabilities and their families with an
opportunity for collaboration, advocacy, friendship and empowerment by serving as a
facilitator of communication, a space for dialogue and a source of information.”
Ø “Since 1998, The Annual Family Café has brought Floridians with all types of disabilities
together for three days of information, training, and networking. With a great range of
individual breakout sessions, a packed Exhibit Hall with dozens of vendors, and a series
of special events including Keynote speakers and The Governors’ Summit on Disabilities,
The Annual Family Café offers attendees exposure to resources on a grand scale,
unprecedented access to policy-making officials, and a chance to network with other
individuals with disabilities and their families.”
