Florida has a wide range of disability-related board opportunities for taking part in leadership
and advocacy within your community.
Below, you will find examples of some of these opportunities.

A.G. Bell Association for the Deaf & Hard of Hearing (Florida) – Board of Directors
Ø A non-profit organization which includes “deaf or hard of hearing adults, parents,
educators, administrators, audiologists and other professionals providing family and
professional networking, fundraising, scholarships, and conferences.” The Board of
Directors has members from across the state.

Arc of Florida - Local Chapter Board of Directors
Ø “The Arc of Florida is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to improve the quality of
life for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We work for education,
awareness, research, advocacy and support of families, friends and the community.”

Autism Society of Florida – Board of Directors
Ø The Autism Society of Florida is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) whose “board of directors are all
volunteer parents of people with autism and adults with autism.”
Ø “For 34 years, we have been working to ensure full participation and self-determination
in every aspect of life for people across the autism spectrum. We work every day to
empower lives by opening avenues of self-advocacy and advocating on behalf of others
in a way that values equity, respect, dignity and diversity in all communities.” They are
an affiliate of the Autism Society of America.

Central Florida Disability Chamber of Commerce - Board
Ø “The mission of the Central Florida Disability Chamber of Commerce is to provide
information and education on business creation and growth, specifically designed for
the needs of people with disabilities.” They are the first and only active Chamber of
Commerce for persons with disabilities in the Nation and offer board opportunities.
