THE GENDER PINT GAP: REVISITED
07
“As a woman who loves beer, I’m continually shocked by the
lengths that some in the industry still go to in order to
exclude more than half the population from enjoying it.
Whether it’s maintaining a social media profile that only
ever shows men enjoying their product, naming their
brewery or beer business in a way that’s clearly meant only
to appeal to men, or the continued push by many pub
companies for beer to be front and centre of all promotions
on Father’s Day yet barely given a mention on Mother’s Day,
it’s not really surprising that many women still feel it’s not a
drink for them.
Of course, women are not all the same, so it’s simply not
enough to reach out to young, white, cisgender,
heterosexual, able-bodied women. It requires a concerted
effort on the part of everyone in the industry to check the
messages they are putting out into the world and ask
themselves ‘are we leaving some people out?’”
