Discover Alaska’s wild side
Alaska – a fabled land of wild and rugged beauty – provides an unprecedented opportunity
to spot fascinating wildlife in its natural habitat.
Bears
Alaska offers an unforgettable
bucket-list opportunity to see
these impressive predators
up close. Watch as bears fish
for salmon in the cold,
fast-flowing streams or
forage the shoreline for
mussels, clams, and berries.
Bald Eagles
Moose
Whales
Look to the skies to see
America’s iconic symbol in
any port along Alaska’s Inside
Passage. With a wingspan of up
to seven feet, they are master
gliders. Watch them soar on
thermals as they scan for fish
– spotting prey from up to two
miles away.
Relative newcomers along
the Inside Passage, moose
migrated to the region via
the Chilkat Valley in the early
20th century. Head to the area
around Haines, accessible on
wildlife tours from Skagway,
for a chance to see them in
the wild.
Both humpback whales and
orcas find a summertime
home in Alaska’s coastal
waters. Massive humpbacks
feed on the region’s bounty of
herring and krill, while orcas
hunt well-known salmon runs
and sea lion colonies for an
easy snack.
