APPENDIX J:
REPORTING REQUIREMENTS
All employees are required to provide a release and authorization to the City to conduct a criminal
history check, education and/or credential verification (including licensure, certification and
registration) and driver’s license check. Such background checks may be conducted prior to
employment and/or periodically throughout employment, at will, by the City.
Employment and continued employment is contingent upon the results of background checks and
remaining in compliance with any licensing requirements. If the background check reveals
information that indicates that an employee is ineligible for employment or to continue working for
the City, the employee shall have a reasonable amount of time to refute its accuracy, in accordance
with the Fair Credit Reporting Act, if applicable. In some instances, during the course of the review
or investigation, the employee may be placed on administrative leave until the information is
gathered to make the decision.
A criminal conviction does not necessarily preclude continued employment with City; the nature of
the offense, time elapsed since conviction, whether the employee made the disclosure, and
position at issue will be taken into consideration before the final decision is reached.
Employees must report to the human resources director or city manager within 3 business days: (1)
any criminal felony charges brought against them; and (2) any conviction for misdemeanors,
felonies, or civil infractions (including motor violations resulting in “points” against the employee’s
driver’s license if the employee drives City vehicles or drives on City business or time).
Any employee who drives a City vehicle, or drives on City time or business must immediately cease
all such driving if the employee’s driver’s license is suspended, revoked or restricted in any way and
the employee must report such license issues to the human resources director or city manager the
next business day.
All volunteer coaches and managers background check policy will follow guidelines set forth by the
U.S. Center for Safe Sport.
