This recipe means a lot to me because it
brings back so many memories from going to
my grandparents’ house and eating dinner
with them. Something about the smell and
the taste just makes me feel like I'm in their
kitchen. Because of covid, I haven't been to
their house for dinner since last year, but my
mom still makes the recipe sometimes.
Yields: 6-8 generous servings plus
enough leftovers for dipping toasted
raviolis on another day. :)
Ingredients
24 oz Tomato paste
48 oz Water
1 1/2 lb Ground beef
1 Medium onion, chopped
2 tbsp Garlic powder
2 tbsp Onion powder
2 tbsp Parsley akes
2 tbsp Salt
5-7 tbsp Sugar
2 tsp Basil
1/4 tsp Oregano

1/4 tsp Fennel seeds

Instructions
• Brown ground beef with chopped onions.
• In large pot, combine meat, tomato paste, water and spices except oregano and simmer for 1 hour stirring
often.
• Add oregano and simmer an additional 15 minutes.
OPTIONS:
Italian Sausage
Substitute 10 Italian sausage links for ground beef. Fry links completely before adding to sauce. Sauté onions
in olive oil.
Ground Beef and Italian Sausage
If a combination of ground beef and Italian links are desired, use 1 ½ lbs. ground beef plus 10 links and
double tomato paste, water and spices.
