continued to
make significant
strides in reaching
the mission of —
In 2023, the North Nanjemoy
Broadband Buildout was launched
as an extension of the Nanjemoy/Cobb Neck (NCN) project. In
this new project, the Count y is again partnering with ThinkBig
Net works, LLC to extend ser vice to an additional 350 properties
in the Nanjemoy area. The original NCN project is expected to
be completed in 2024.
The Count y is also partnering with Comcast on several projects.
The memoranda of understanding (MOU) for both the fiscal
2022 and fiscal 2023 Connect Mar yland grant programs was
executed in 2023. These projects will bring access to broadband
to over 1,000 properties in areas such as Dentsville, Charlotte
Hall, Newburg, and Hughesville. Construction began in late 2023.
As of December 2023, we have provided funding to 99 residences through the Count y’s Long Driveway grant program
(LD-Cat3). This program provides financial assistance to construct ser vice drops that connect homes at the end of long, private driveways to the existing broadband net work on the road.
Residents are eligible to participate in the program if their service drop is constructed bet ween July 1, 2021 through December
30, 2024.
The Count y continues to seek funding opportunities to bring
broadband access to our residents. In December 2023 we
applied for the Mar yland Of fice of Statewide Broadband’s
“Dif ficult to Ser ve Properties” grant. If successful, the Count y will
receive an additional $1 million for broadband projects.

Verizon also received funding for broadband projects in the
Count y through the fiscal 2023 Connect Mar yland program. The
Count y and Verizon are in the process of negotiating an MOU,
which is expected to be completed in 2024.
