PRESERVATION
Charles County's Planning and Growth Management
has permanently preserved 18 properties through
the Rural Legacy Program, Maryland Agricultural
Land Preservation Program, and the Transfer of
Development Rights Program. These conservation
easement acquisitions represent a $5.1 million
investment in the conservation of our most productive
working farms and forests.

ACCESSIBILITY
VanGO operates an ex tensive specialized
door-to-door service for elderly and disabled
residents unable to use the fixed route service.

Conservation Easement
Acquisitions
The County received an additional $2 million in Rural
Legacy Program grant funding to continue purchasing conservation easements within the Zekiah and
Nanjemoy-Mattawoman Forest Rural Legacy Areas.
VanGO drivers can provide door-to-door assistance to make the process of boarding and
alighting easier. This vital service allows residents to access services, employment, and
recreational opportunities and continues to
grow as our citizens age in place. Over 1,500
citizens are certified to utilize this service.
Our local public transit system (managed by
Planning & Growth Management) serves all of
Charles County linking communities to medical facilities, retail, offices, schools, and other
popular destinations.
