TRUE BLUE SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT: AERIAL MABERRY, ’26
Major: Film and Television Arts
College: College of Arts and Sciences | Hometown: Boise, Idaho
Coming from a home broken by substance abuse and loss, Aeriel Maberry
found her mentors in television and movies. Now, pursuing her Bachelor of
Arts in Film and Television at Boise State, she wants to make a difference on
set and behind the scenes to connect with kids with home lives like hers.
Boise State University has given this first-generation student the structure and
confidence she needed, as well as a second home. She’s now an active member of the Zeta Tau Alpha
sorority and vice president of personal development. Making her experience possible has been the True
Blue Scholarship.
“It’s a weight off. It was a lift, and it lifted me,” she said. “With this scholarship, Boise State thinks the
things I’ve accomplished are just the start of what I can accomplish — and I feel like that’s been the
truth since I’ve come to Boise State. I’ve become more confident.”
Every scholarship helps a student, but not all scholarships help
the university. We have an opportunity to do both..
— Jeremiah Shinn, Vice President for Student Affairs and
Enrollment Management, Boise State University
Boise State University has a mission: to make attending college possible for every student. That’s
why scholarships are a pillar of Unbridled: The Campaign for Boise State.
Endowed scholarships are one of the most powerful tools students have when it comes to
reaching their goals, supporting Broncos generation after generation. Many scholarships,
however, limit who can apply based on criteria that can eventually make them difficult or even
impossible to award — especially to incoming students.
That’s why Boise State designed the True Blue scholarships: to stand the test of time. The True
Blues are flexible, helping the university meet students where they are, attract and retain the
strongest academic talent from across the Gem State, and fulfill its mandate to be a higher
education leader in Idaho and beyond. They’re also endowed scholarships, meaning that they
support students in perpetuity.
Endowed scholarships — particularly the True Blues — are central to how Unbridled
will reshape Boise State by broadening access to a college education and establishing
the university as a destination for students, regardless of their financial situation.
