WHAT’S NEXT INITIATIVE
Boise State Athletics is on the verge of becoming a leader in college athletics. To aggressively move
forward, the organization has launched an ambitious strategic blueprint for success — the What’s
Next Initiative.
To answer the question “Where do we go next?,” Athletics is focused on a multi-year plan to
upgrade infrastructure and the student-athlete experience, and generate revenue. The time is now
to set the trajectory of and sustain Bronco Athletics for years to come.
Longtime supporters of Boise State Athletics Joe and Janet Russell are among the 98 new Lyle
Smith Society members this fiscal year, bringing the total society membership to over 200 during
2022. These members have contributed more than $23 million since the society’s inception in 2020.
“We have been blessed in our lives, including financially, and believe it is important to do what one
can to give others a helping hand,” Joe said. “Bronco Nation is composed of tens of thousands of
individuals, and it isn’t about how much each of us can give, but each of us giving what we can.”
Boise State Athletics is in growth mode with the expansion of the Lyle Smith Society and the
Horsepower Drive for 10,000 Bronco Athletic Association members. Upcoming capital investments
include game-day experience upgrades like the new $4.5 million south end zone scoreboard
committed by Melaleuca.
“We now have our playbook for success…With the help of Bronco Nation, now is the time to position
our department for sustainable excellence and ensure we are providing an elite student-athlete
experience,” said Jeramiah Dickey, Director of Athletics. By continuing on this path and sharing the
Boise State Athletics story, we will define What’s Next together.

SMITH
SOCIETY?
The Lyle Smith Society is the Athletics giving society where
membership begins with a minimum gift of $50,000. Its 200
founding members have committed to more than $23 million
since the society’s inception in 2021.
