Scheduled to reopen in 2024 following
a major restoration, the Incline carries
passengers and automobiles up and
down a 71% grade hillside measuring
900 feet from the valley below. Enjoy
a breathtaking view of the city from
our waiting /observation deck. Stroll
through the gift shop, visitor center,
restaurant, exhibits, and Centennial Flag.
Seasonal hours. Rates vary. Please check

updates! Visitor center and restaurant
remain open during the restoration.

A spectacular, three-story Iron & Steel
Gallery includes a theater showing the
film “The Mystery of Steel,” which tells the
story of how Johnstown played a crucial
role in the early days of the steel industry
– including high-definition footage of
Johnstown’s steel mills in 1992. The
exhibition “Forging a Nation: Johnstown
Iron & Steel” comprehensively details
Johnstown’s steel history and technical
innovations invented here, from the
1700s through the present.
The first successful use of
the pneumatic process in
making steel in the U.S. was
made at the Cambria Iron
Works in 1857-1858.

HISTORIC LANDMARK
The historic Blacksmith Shop was home
to the Cambria Iron Co. until 1923 when
it was bought out by Bethlehem Steel.
Today, it is home to Center for Metal
Arts, a non-for-profit forging school
that offers beginner through advanced
forging workshops in its state-of-theart facilities. The Blacksmith Shop
contains original forging tools and
equipment that CMA is in the process of
refurbishing including a five-ton power
hammer. The Johnstown Area Heritage
Association offers guided tours by
reservation only.
