Sportsmen's Tennis and
Enrichment Center
Bergmeyer | 2022 Corporate Social Responsibility Report
Sportsmen’s Tennis, the first US tennis club by and for the
Black community, was established in 1961. The Sportsmen’s
Tennis & Enrichment Center offers free and low-cost
tennis, academics, and life skills programming to more than
5000 youth annually. Through their adult recreational and
competitive tennis programs and pioneering initiatives
like “Volley Against Violence” and “Center for Community
Wellness,” Sportsmen’s Tennis extends its outreach to
Boston’s underserved communities.

For Sportsmen’s Tennis, Bergmeyer designed a new
addition to their existing tennis facility containing indoor
and outdoor courts and helped master plan a future addition
that could host additional enrichment and office functions.
After helping them through a long and complex permitting
and approval process that even included Federal agency
review, the addition is currently in construction. Bergmeyer
and Shawmut Construction, our design-build partner, have
discounted our fees from the onset of the project in order to
align with Sportsmen’s budgetary goals.
