Bergmeyer | 2022 Corporate Social Responsibility Report
In June 2021, Bergmeyer’s Shelly Chipimo, AIA, was sworn in
as the youngest member ever to be appointed to the Brookline
Planning Board. In her volunteer role, Shelly participates in the public
design review process for new developments and major renovations
that are proposed for her Town. Shelly sees that Brookline is dealing
with the same pressures facing every community in metro Boston: a
growing residential population with a need for more transit-oriented
and affordable housing overlayed upon a beloved historical urban
context. Shelly is happy to bring her fresh perspective as a new, young
architect to the Planning Board and to help create a shared vision for
Brookline’s equitable future. She also sees a benefit to her professional
development in this volunteer opportunity, seeing the whole process
unfold and learning how to balance the needs of private
and public interests.

“One of the fundamental things
I appreciate about my time on
the Brookline Planning Board
is the exposure to the many
elements that shape The Public
Realm. There are the tangible
& spatial things we experience
as pedestrians & the intangible
things that fund and drive
neighborhood development
(policies, guidelines, budgets)."
"I've learned that it is a fine
art to be able to negotiate
for community benefits and
consider how the financial,
infrastructural, and design
decisions must all work
together to advance the
Town’s goals.”
