when I moved to Durban when I was 18, I found out about basketball which intrigued me.
A sport that looked like netball that I had never seen before.” At 18 years old, Nasiphi was
barely familiar with basketball. Yet, over a decade later, basketball has taken her to 10
countries and enabled her to reach the masses. Undoubtedly, many young girls in South
Africa aspire to be like Nasiphi.
When asked about the power of basketball, Nasiphi says, “You can bring a ball to any place.
Children, adults, and everyone jumps in. No matter religious differences or race. Through
sport, we can eventually have difficult conversations about issues young people and women
face across our world.”
When asked what she would like people to remember about her, Nasiphi says, “I would like
them [people] to remember that Nasiphi is human; she is growing and using everything
that has happened in her life to build her to be where she is. Nasiphi remains hungry
and building for the next phases of her life. Remember, through resilience, you are able to
become, to build, and to be yourself through it all.”
Nasiphi has and will continue to use sport as a catalyst to inspire in her role with
PeacePlayers South Africa as the Director of Strategy & Partnerships.
