The Leadership Development Programme (LDP) is a
3-year high school programme comprising a diverse
group of youth from communities throughout
the Durban area. This programme focuses on
local and global team building, cultural exchange,
and basketball activities. Locally, in South Africa,
participants connect monthly for sessions while
also volunteering at events.
South African LDP participants Hannah Bromley &
Caitlin Bird are prime examples of what it means to
live through PeacePlayers core values within their
community. The lessons learned from PeacePlayers
global and local initiatives have become a part of
the values they live by. These values and their
participation with the LDP team were contributing
factors to their respective schools awarding them
colours. Earning colours meant that their school
officially awarded them for achieving provincial
recognition for their exceptional basketball abilities
amongst the best in the country.
Hannah is from Durban North, and Caitlin is from
Hillcrest, just West of Durban Central. This is where
their curiosity about the game of basketball started.
Early on, while Hannah played recreationally,
Caitlin took the game a bit more seriously. Just after
one year of playing basketball, Caitlin made the
All-KwaZulu Natal team in Grade 7. Nasiphi Khafu,
