A NOTE ON THE NEXT
20 YEARS AND BEYOND
SOUTH AFRICA
When I listen to our participants and alumni share their journeys through PeacePlayers — how it molded
and grew them in facing their own unique struggles, joys, fears, losses, and dreams — this for me is far
bigger than any strategic plan or word-wrapped vision! It is for these youth that we show up to work
each day. South Africa remains a country beset with socio-economic divides, with over 50% of our
children considered vulnerable to multiple stressors. In order to help youth thrive in these challenging
circumstances, we have identified two main goals that will help us increase our impact in the coming years:
to strengthen our resource base in the face of global changes, and to diversify and increase our participant
base. These are no small tasks, but the last 20 years has shown we are more than equal to it.
THERE IS NO FORMULA OR SINGULAR SOLUTION; IT’S NOT JUST HARD WORK, BUT ALSO COMMITMENT,
PASSION, EXPERIENCE, STRONG PARTNERSHIPS, CREATIVE LEARNING, COURAGEOUS PARTICIPATION, AND EVEN VULNERABILITY
AND STRUGGLE THAT TOGETHER WILL GUARANTEE AN EXCITING JOURNEY OVER THE NEXT 20 YEARS TOWARDS A MORE
CONNECTED, PEACEFUL, EQUITABLE AND PROSPEROUS SOUTH AFRICA.
