d. Employees – If an employee tests positive (confirmed drug test or alcohol test), he
or she will be removed from the job and referred to evaluation, assessment and/or
rehabilitation at their own expense and/or disciplined in accordance with
Archdiocese of Atlanta and The Office of Catholic Schools’ policies up to and
including termination. The Office of Catholic Schools through the Director of
Human Resources will refer the employee to its Employee Assistance Program.
Refusal to agree to be referred to rehabilitation will result in immediate termination.
8. Drug Testing Procedures. The Office of Catholic Schools will utilize any type of drug
testing procedure that it believes is appropriate, in conformity with the law, including
urinalysis, blood tests, breathalyzers, or any other method. All applicants and employees
will be required to sign the Chemical Screening Consent and Release Form before any drug
test.
9. Drugs. The Office of Catholic Schools will determine the controlled substances (including
alcohol) for which testing will be performed.
10. Resource File/Employee Assistance. The Office of Catholic Schools will inform employees
of its Employee Assistance Program and maintain and post information on the program.
11. Return to Work/Consideration for Re-employment. Employees returning from
rehabilitation will be considered for employment in accordance with the law, business
conditions, job availability and the policies of the Archdiocese of Atlanta and its Office of
Catholic Schools.
12. Disciplinary Action. The Office of Catholic Schools reserves the right to use disciplinary
action up to and including termination for any violation of this policy, any positive drug
test, tampered or adulterated test, refusal to take a test, or any refusal by an employee to
cooperate with any aspect of this policy.
13. Confidentiality. All information, test results, or other materials received by the Office of
Catholic Schools in the operation of this substance abuse program are confidential
communications which will only be utilized on a need-to-know basis. These confidential
communications and information will not be released unless required by law.
14. Designated Substance Abuse Program Official. The Archdiocese of Atlanta’s Director of
Human Resources is the designated Substance Abuse Program Official. All
communications and the coordination of the program will be conducted through the
Director of Human Resources or his designee.
15. Searches. The Office of Catholic Schools reserves the right to search any person, personal
article, work area, vehicle or other items brought onto Archdiocese of Atlanta property.
Refusal by an employee to consent to a search will be grounds for termination.
16. Drug-Free Workplace. This substance abuse policy operates in conformity and compliance
with the State of Georgia Workers’ Compensation Drug-Free Workplace Certification
Program (O.C.G.A. Section 34-9-410 to -421 (1993)). All employees are required to report to
