2021 ABC Illinois Annual Review - Flipbook - Page 49
In 2021 the Community Builders Program continued our partnership with Project H.O.O.D and sponsored our
first all-female electrical training class. This group of women were passionate and ready to better their lives
and encourage other minority women to enter the construction industry.
Participants in this fifteen-week program received three industry-recognized credentials and were ready to
launch their careers in construction.
The program began in March and concluded on July 8th, 2021 with a graduation celebration of their accomplishments. Preceding the graduation, Associated Builders & Contractors, Illinois Chapter (ABCIL), the program's exclusive training partner, hosted a career fair, where graduates interviewed with ABCIL member
contractors. Two graduates were offered positions immediately, and the others had follow-up interviews
scheduled following the graduation. Several participants have moved onto the next level of training from
pre-apprenticeship to apprenticeship.
This outstanding group of women will, no doubt continue to be successful, as proven through their
determination and commitment during the training. A special thanks to Senator Mattie Hunter for her
continued support, the Chicago Urban League for their contributions and
our Workforce Development Coordinator Susette Crenshaw and Instructor Tamiko Winn!
We continue to fight to make the industry more inclusive, diverse, and equitable.
