networking event since the COVID-19
pandemic hit.
• Hosted our first annual Virtual March
Madness bracket challenge to support our
legal rights and strategies efforts.
• “Derby Day” Virtual Horse Race to help
our Political Actions Committee have
resources to support the upcoming elections.
• Excellence in Construction Project
Eligibility Workshop complete.
• Career Night for the Community Builders
cohort with Project H.O.O.D to learn of
possible employment opportunites.
• POLITICAL WIN! Defeated HB3437 that
would have required prevailing wage on
private construction work in refineries and
ethanol plants.
• Successfully completed first virtual
OSHA-10 training course allowing
participation from members across the state.
APR
• Started a new Laborer’s Training
Cohort in conjunction with Project H.O.O.D.
• Conducted ABCIL Staff Development
training focusing on the Franklin Covey 7
Habits of Highly Effective People.
• The 2021 Excellence in Construction
Competition completed with 11 entries from
9 member companies.
• Featured in the State Journal-Register for
Careers in Construction month, highlighting
benefits of industry careers that offer
earn-while-you-learn craft education.

MAY
•Students and members attended our
first annual Summer BBQ Party where
students “showed off” their skills by
competing in a rigorous timed knot tying
race.
•Excellence in Construction Intent to
Compete Workshop complete.
• Successfully complete first hybrid
(in-person & virtual) OSHA-10 training
course.
JUN
• Successful in stopping Amendment #1 to
HB 3293 which would have required
General Contractors be held liable for their
sub-contractor’s employee wages – double
jeopardy!
• Kicked off the Holiday season with a
Holiday Mixer spotlighting SAFETY with
member companies Kurent Safety and our
Workers Comp Insurance Partner the Candos
Agency.
• ABCIL was awarded a $100,000 grant
from the Trimmer Education Foundation to
assist with the expansion of our Elk Grove
Village Office and Training Center.
• Hosted our first Stakeholders meeting
with diverse organizations, establishing
like-minder allies to work together on key
issues in the upcoming legislative session.
• In 2021 we have certified 135 individuals
in OSHA 10.
• We were awarded a Inclusion, Diversity
and Equity Initiative Grant to send two
pre-apprenticeship students to the ABC
National Convention in 2022.
