The idea of creating learning communities was in the thought
processes of those working to get the school open, but the idea
had to wait for the priorities of accreditation and infrastructure to
get into place. Once those were in position and Robert Hernandez,
Jr., MD, was hired as vice dean for academic affairs and
education, learning communities were back on the front burner.
