Lucy, inspired by generations of nurses in
her family, is a passionate nursing student
committed to supporting people during
their most challenging moments. The
Resthaven Undergraduate Scholarship
has been a beacon of hope for Lucy,
offering the financial support she needs
to focus on her studies and well-being.
“The Resthaven Undergraduate
Scholarship has given me the freedom
to immerse myself in my exams
and placements without the fear of
financial stress,” Lucy shared.

Now in the second year of her degree,
Lucy spends her placement shifts in the
hospital striving to help her patients feel
as comfortable as possible while honing
her technical skills. She maintains her
positive attitude through hard times,
aiming to share the load with patients as
they receive difficult news from doctors.
“I honestly just have such
a passion for helping
people. Connecting with
my patients and bringing
a smile to their faces in
a setting that can bring
such fear and sadness
gives me so much joy.”
Resthaven CEO Darren Birbeck expressed
his hopes for the Scholarship’s impact:
“We aim for these scholarships to not only
provide financial assistance to deserving
students but also help recipients gain a
deeper appreciation for the importance
of working collaboratively with older
people in our communities and lives.”
“We established the Resthaven nursing
scholarships to support the aged care
workforce, to meet the ever-increasing
demand for aged care services now,
and into the future,” he added.
