It is fitting that as we celebrate the 100th anniversary of
United Way of Greater Nashville, we can also celebrate the
completion of United We Win: Faces of Our Community.
This was a project many years in the making. The goal was to share the portraits
and stories of 100 individuals—our donors, volunteers, agency providers and
clients—all captured, just as they are, and presented in the same way: as equal
players in our mission to create a stronger, healthier, more united community.
The project is many things … part portrait series, part video blog, part storytelling
platform. It is also a conversation. A showcase of the humanity of our mission and
the inherent beauty and diversity of our community. A small way for us to share the
delicate interconnectivity of our work: the generosity of our donors, the strength
and resilience of our clients, the compassion of our agency providers and the
leadership of our business partners.
What better way to celebrate the 100-year history of United Way of Greater
Nashville than through the unique, compelling and undeniably interwoven stories of
these 100 individuals?
The individuals and stories showcased here represent our vision for this
community. One in which every person—no matter their background, their
circumstances or their zip code—has an equal chance at a bright future. Where our
neighbors’ struggles are our struggles. Where we all truly believe in the power of
living as one.
We are one Nashville, one Middle Tennessee, one interconnected group who,
together, can create meaningful, lasting change. Just as we have done for the past
100 years, and as we will continue to do for the next 100.
Because, united we can—we will—win.
