OUR COMMITMENT TO DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION
United Way of Greater Nashville recognizes that structural racism and other forms of oppression
have contributed to disparities for many members of our community. We all have a responsibility to
actively participate in our democracy as informed citizens and to collectively seek justice and a more
equitable future for all people. Educating ourselves further about the legacy of racial injustice and
discrimination in this country is a key piece of this. But learning and listening is not enough. We must
also turn that information into action—to stand up for those who have been ignored and dismissed
for much too long.
Our mission is to unite the community and mobilize resources so that every child, individual
and family thrives. That means that we see it as our responsibility to examine every part of our
organization and to engage the entire community to ensure that we are actively working to dismantle
disparities and to fight against injustice.
To do this, we will:
SUPPORT the leaders of our historically disenfranchised communities, marginalized by racism and
discrimination, and work alongside those individuals and organizations as they create a path toward
a more equitable and just society
PARTNER with the public and private sectors to create solutions that lift up our most underserved
communities and create lasting change
SEEK out opportunities to build relationships with, and invest in, organizations that serve and are led
by members of our minority communities
COMMIT to an ongoing and purposeful journey of listening, learning and growing as an organization
that holds our leadership, our staff and our partners accountable in this work
