Your easy-breezy
summer in the city
Impossible-to-tire-of London makes for an awesome summertime break. And we’d
need a hundred more pages to cover everything worth seeing and doing. But we
want to make your stay with us a falling-off-a-log dream, so here we’ve highlighted
some of our pubs with family rooms near some of the city’s hottest sights and
experiences (that kids will dig, too).
Greenwich+Docklands International Festival
Held every August and September, GDIF is
London’s leading festival of theatre, circus, dance
and street arts. It’s spectacular, thought-provoking,
magical, and moving. All the events are outdoors,
and most of them are free. Stay at The Station in
Hither Green, and you have a close-to-the-action
base for the entire extravaganza.
Battersea Power Station
Yes, power stations can be fun. Especially when
they’ve been transformed into over 140 shops,
bars, restaurants, leisure and entertainment venues.
Plus, there are cool events all year and some notto-be-skipped things to do. How about a vertical
trip in Lift 109, which takes you to the top of the
northwest chimney, where you’ll be blown away
by 360-degree skyline views? Stay at The Alma in
Wandsworth Town, and you can get a direct train
right there in just 20 mins.
Hampton Court Palace Maze
Magni昀椀cent is an understatement when it comes
to this historic royal residence. You can tour the
majestic Tudor Halls, explore over 800 acres of
gardens and parkland, and get lost in the 300year-old maze. It’s a few miles outside London,
but the Orange Tree, our elegant pub in leafy
Richmond, West London, is on the right side of
town to make the trip a cinch.
Wimbledon Tennis Championships
It’s the oldest tennis tournament in the world, and
for most, it’s the biggie. A Centre Court seat is a
life goal, but watching any of the action live is a treat
(and so are the famous strawberries). This year,
Wimbledon’s running from 1st to 14th July. Stay at
the Dog & Fox or the Rose & Crown in Wimbledon
Village, and you’re just a ball’s throw away (okay, so
it’s a 10-minute walk, but that’s still pretty close).
Central London sights
Brewer’s Inn and the Spread Eagle in Wandsworth
are away from the urban hurly-burly but still amazingly
handy for must-see sights. Just along the river, you’ll
昀椀nd a couple of the capital’s globally-known icons:
The London Eye (huge views) and Big Ben (loud
bongs). The Natural History Museum is just a short
jaunt into swanky South Kensington – you can visit
this celebration of the natural world a hundred times
and still 昀椀nd new things to blow your mind.
