Cotswolds gems
& winter boltholes
You’ll 昀椀nd delightful Young’s pubs right across the south and southwest of England.
And each one of them has a special attraction, whether it’s their stunning scenic
location or their bewitching olde-worlde character. In this issue, we sing the praises
of a bunch of beauties in the Cotswolds and some ultra-cosy pubs that are just the
job for a winter getaway. Let’s pay them a 昀氀ying visit.
Five sitting pretty in the Cotswolds
The Cotswolds is a must-do staycation destination
in picture-postcard England. Think rolling hills,
unspoilt countryside, pretty villages, market
towns, stately castles and country houses.
First, we’ll head to the as-quaint-as-you-like town
of Northleach and drop into the gorgeous
Wheatsheaf Inn. Stay at this 17th-century
coaching inn, and you feel a million miles
from anywhere, but really, it’s only just a
short canter to Cheltenham racecourse.
Next, we’re off to The Bell in Stow-on-the-Wold.
Rustic yet stylish, it’s a traditional pub-lover’s dream,
with 昀氀agstone 昀氀ooring and cask ales pouring.
We have another coaching inn up next,
and this one’s a whole century older.
The White Hart in the beautiful hamlet of
Ford has been sensitively restored, so it’s
packed to the rafters with original features.
The historic spa town of Cheltenham is the 昀椀nal
stop on our tour. No.38 The Park is a gorgeous
Georgian townhouse tucked away in leafy Pittville,
which means you get that tranquil country
atmosphere, but you’re only a 昀椀ve-minute stroll
from the buzzing centre. And The George has
46 bedrooms, so it’s a tad more grown-up than
most of its Young’s siblings.
We’re your winter wonderland
Young’s pubs are perfect places to stay all year
round, but we think they become most magical
in the chilly winter months. Hands warming by
a roaring log 昀椀re. Hats and scarves hanging up to
dry. Mulled wine and hot chocolate served at the
bar. Endless plates of hearty food coming from
