Slip Resistance
DIN 51130 is an worldwide
test within the ceramics
industry to test for slip
resistance.
Post Grouting
To avoid ‘fogging’ from the residue of the grout the whole
installation needs cleaning again with a damp sponge and
buffing dry with a soft cloth
The Final Clean
Now that the installation has been completed a final cleaning
is recommended to ensure that your paving continues to look
as new for as long as possible. To remove the last of the
remains of the installation process a diluted acid solution is
suggested which can be purchased with your paving.
The test consists of a platform
fitted with tiles which has
been lubricated with oil. It is
gradually raised at an angle,
when the operator slips the
angle is noted. After repeated
tests, the averaged
angle is used to determine an
‘R rating’ for the tile.
Flood the entire area with clean water before applying any
chemical solutions. Doing this will impregnate the surface of
the paving and limit the amount of acid which can be
absorbed by the surface.
The First Clean - Pre Grouting
When using acid based cleaning chemicals the following
guidelines MUST be adhered to. Carry out a test clean on a
discrete area before committing. Only proceed once the test
clean is successful.
Continue to carry out the cleaning in manageable areas rather
than trying to clean the entire installation in one go.
Flood every area you have just cleaned with fresh clean water
before beginning the next area.
At this stage of the surface will soiled with mortar and dust
from the installation and must be removed before it can be
grouted.
Carry out a final flood of water over the whole area to finish
and your paving should give you years of pleasure.
Cleaning
We advised that during the installation process of your
porcelain paving it goes through two cleaning procedures.
We recommend thorough washing ( and if necessary,
scrubbing ) with a detergent and hot water to lift all of the
soiling caused by the installation. Then flooding with clean
water and wiping with a damp sponge. The final stage of the
first clean is to dry buff the porcelain tiles with a soft dry cloth.

Routine Maintenance
Porcelain paving does not need very much in the way of
maintenance but to keep it looking its best we recommend
cleaning your paving at least twice a year with an appropriate
patio detergent and a power washer.
