Information about Marrying Abroad
Unfortunately, we are not able to provide advice about the
legal requirements of marriage in individual countries, as
you would be marrying under local marriage law. More
information can be found on the government website.

time of your marriage, as we will not be able to help you
access a further copy.
If the country in which you intend to marry requires a
Certificate of No Impediment and you are a resident of the
Royal Borough, then please contact us for an appointment.
This is available to UK citizens only.
Some couples decide they wish to celebrate their marriage
in a ceremony aboard, but without the sometimes complex
processes involved in having the legal ceremony there. In
that case we would be delighted to arrange your legal marriage
ceremony here with us, at the Register Office Ceremony
Room, or at one of our licensed venues, and you are then free
to celebrate as you wish abroad. In this scenario, your marriage
would be registered in the UK. We can keep things very simple
if you wish not to detract from your larger celebration
following abroad.
If you have already married abroad, there is no facility or
requirement to register your marriage in the UK. If you
married following the local law of the country, and you
would have been allowed to marry by law in the UK, then
your marriage should be legally recognised in the UK. If you
