Information about Religious Marriages
If you are marrying in the Church of England,
the usual process is to arrange this with the
vicar and your legal preliminaries will take
place in the form of your banns being read.
You will only need to present yourselves at your
local Register Office to give notice of your intent
to marry if either of you is a foreign national and
subject to immigration control. If you are
marrying in any other Church or religious
premises authorised for marriage, you will
need to give notice of your intent to marry, in
the same way as outlined on page 13 and 14.
If you have been married in a religious
ceremony that does not hold legal status in the
UK, please contact us to arrange a legal marriage
ceremony. This can be a simple as you choose.
All Church and other legal religious
marriages in our district are registered at our
Register Office after the event has taken place.
After this has happened, please email us at
ceremony.bookings@rbwm.gov.uk for the link to
order your marriage certificates, which we will
post out to you.
