Investment Management
Investment managers are responsible for investing money on behalf of their clients (who
can be individuals, companies, charities or government organisations). Their role includes
researching and deciding on the best investment opportunities for their clients’ needs, with
the ultimate goal of growing their wealth. What they decide depends on multiple factors,
such as how much risk a client can take with their initial money, and the time a client has
before they have to reach their investment goal. As client needs are at the heart of investment, there are
also roles within investment management firms dedicated to building close relationships with clients.
What they’re looking for:
Graduates who have achieved a 2:1 degree in any degree discipline, and who have a demonstrable
interest in the field. Some companies, but not all, prefer candidates who do numerical degrees like
mathematics or economics, though many others see numerical skills as ones that can be learnt and
developed on the job.
Salary expectations:
Typical graduate salary: £25,000-£43,000
Potential salary (after five years experience): £40,000-£100,000

factual programmes.
