student class size and is also working to expand its GME programs.
Just this year, a rheumatology fellowship was added and programs
in hematology, medical oncology, and neurology are being planned.
The school has also been awarded accreditation by the Accreditation
Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), assuring the
medical community and the public that the Kirk Kerkorian School
of Medicine at UNLV delivers education that is relevant to clinicians9
needs, evidence-based, evaluated for its effectiveness, and
independent of commercial innuence.
The Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV continues to establish
itself as an integral part of the healthcare ecosystem of Southern
Nevada. Together with colleagues in the UNLV Schools of Dental
Medicine, Integrated Health Sciences, Nursing, and Public Health and
the other mental and behavioral health disciplines within the university,
the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine is working to transform that
ecosystem and establish an academic health center. Nevada deserves
to be better than 42nd in the nation for health outcomes or 48th for
active primary care physicians per 100,000 population. Nevada, and
especially Southern Nevada, needs more physicians of every discipline
to support its growing population and, for these reasons, the medical
school will continue to expand to meet these needs.
