When Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV graduates
Addison Guida, MD, Trevor Orr, MD, and Jalen Paulos, MD,
envisioned their futures – when they graduated in May, they were
the 昀rst to do so with dual degrees – each saw a day when their
careers could be helped by specialization beyond residencies
in their chosen 昀elds of anesthesiology, family medicine, and
orthopaedic surgery.
Dr. Guida, who plans on becoming an anesthesiologist, took
advantage of UNLV’s MD/MPH (master of public health) dual
degree program that saw her become the 昀rst Kirk Kerkorian
School of Medicine student to earn a master of public health
in healthcare administration along with her medical degree.
“I plan on using my MPH degree material towards improving
quality and e٠恩ciency within healthcare facilities,= Dr. Guida
said. “Being able to analyze and work within the broader
constructs of healthcare that are determined by policy, issues/
trends, standards, and regulations will be imperative for me to
effectively treat my patients and navigate the system.”
Both Dr. Paulos, who plans on becoming an orthopaedic surgeon,
and Dr. Orr, a family physician, have hopes of opening private
practices one day. Understanding that 昀nancial acumen is
necessary to run a business, they became the 昀rst at the medical
school to also earn a master of business administration degree
while medical students.
