and interviews, as well as 昀lling the void of not having a medical
clerkship director, coordinator, and a residency program coordinator
simultaneously. “Without them, I would not have been able to onboard
seven physicians,” Dr. Gomez says.
Looking toward the future, the department has added a 昀nancial
advisor, desires to hire a registered nurse with labor and delivery
experience to offer antenatal fetal testing in the clinics, a specialist
in diabetic education for pregnant women, and would like to invest in
more advanced ultrasound machines. The department also promoted
clinical support staff that has been in the department for years into
leadership roles. “Zena Jacobs, the executive director of clinical
operations for UNLV Health, has been crucial in training the clinical
support staff and in supporting my vision for the department. We
are seeing the difference in patient experience, e٠恩ciency of o٠恩ce
processes, and quality of patient care.”
For her part, Jacobs believes that prioritizing the patient is what
has been driving their success over the last year. “The OB-GYN and
maternal fetal medicine division have been successful because
every decision that is made has the patient experience as the primary
focus,” says Jacobs. “We have a team of physicians and staff that
emulate each day what compassion and caring are truly about. This
department has placed a great emphasis on their culture and every
employee fosters an environment that drives our mission and vision
each day.”
Another big change that Dr. Gomez says will increase their patients’
access to care is having the previously centralized call center relocated
into their o٠恩ce.
