Editorial: January 2024
One of the extraordinary things
about our Club is that it looks
aver us from the cradle to the
grave. Bruce Jupp, Chairman of
the General Commi琀琀ee, who is
masterminding the produc}on of
this annual review of the Club9s
ac}vi}es, kindly delegated to me
the task of wri}ng the editorial.
He remembers being brought up
here to Sanderstead in his pram,
as his father, Ray Jupp, was
Captain of the Rugby Club and
later, Team Secretary. It was Ray,
in my Lower Sixth days, who
would ring me up on a Saturday
morning to see if I was free to
turn out for the A XV and meet
Mar}n Garne琀琀, the owner of one
of the few cars in the Club, for the
journey to a far o昀昀 South London
suburb, where we would ba琀琀le on
the pitch and stay drinking un}l
Mar}n had had his 昀椀ll and was
ready to return home.
