Hockey Club Magazine Report
December 2023
This has been a year of change for the
club. The main challenge is the
turnover in our playing membership.
Players have moved on, for a variety
of reasons – work; family; injuries;
home loca}on; educa}on and many
more. The high turnover in players has
meant our focus, for the season, is
consolida}on with a view to rebuilding.
It was with this goal at the forefront,
that we turned to Anthony Brady – a
seasoned and experienced player – to
lead the 1st XI. He has energised the
team with his op}mism and combined
with a pragma}c approach has led the
team to 3rd in their league at the
Christmas break. This is a strong
performance and testament to his
approach.
In addi}on to the League, the 1st XI,
has also had success in the Na}onal
Cup. We are through to the last 16
and have been drawn against Tulse
Hill and Dulwich in the next round,
scheduled to be played on 17th
February. This came aver a tense
sudden death penalty shootout win
over Eastcote. With both sides having
scored 4 out of their 昀椀rst 5 we went to
sudden death where we scored the
winning goal.
The 3rd XI is currently just below midtable having a mixed season
characterised by lots of endeavour but
some poor luck. This has led to a
number of games being narrowly lost
by the odd goal. If fortune had been a
li琀琀le more favourable they would be
amongst the promo}on hopefuls.
However, with a more se琀琀led side,
they will end the season in the top
half of the table.
It was always going to be challenging
for the Mixed Team to replicate their
fantas}c cup run from last season.
They were drawn away to local rivals
Oxted, in the 昀椀rst round. They very
narrowly lost 2-1 to an excellent
Oxted team that contained several
Na}onal League players. However,
they will con}nue their journey in the
Plate compe}}on where they have
great hopes. They will surely be one of
the teams that others will not want to
be drawn against.
Our Colts sec}on is going through a
8lull9, as several players have
transi}oned to adult hockey or have
commitments to School sports. We
are looking to re-energise this sec}on.
If you have or know of children (7+)
who want to learn the game and
importantly have fun! Sessions take
place at Trinity School on Sunday
morning. For more informa}on,
