Our ethical fundraising policy ensureswe do not compromise on our purpose and valueswhen raising income. It is reviewed every two years.The Charity uses agencies to help us with someaspects of our fundraising, including door-to-door,private site, and telephone fundraising, as well asthe processing of donations to our website and thecollection of regular donations. We also benefit froma charity lottery managed by an external lotterymanager. The agencies we use are thoroughly vettedand briefed on the purpose of the Charity and theneed for them to comply with and meet the standardsset out in the Code of Fundraising Practice. Agencystaff receive training about the hospital’s work, theCharity’s values and the standards to be maintained.Oversight of their activities is carried out through acombination of methods, including regular meetingsand mystery shopping.We aim to ensure that supporters are afforded thehighest levels of support, respect and protection.All fundraising staff are trained in the Charity’sfundraising policies, which include the following:activity that were successfully resolved. Noindividuals have registered with the FundraisingPreference Service to stop us from contacting themduring the year.• We recognise the importance of safeguarding thepersonal data of our supporters and ensuringthat we have a legal basis for maintaining andprocessing such data in line with PECR, GDPRand ICO requirements. This is set out in ourprivacy statement, published on our website andperiodically updated.LotteryWe run a large subscription-type, society, remote,low-frequency lottery licensed by the GamblingCommission.Chances of winningBased on average lottery ticket sales, the likelihood ofwinning a prize is:• First prize: 1 in 13.9 million chance;• Second prize: 1 in 55,200 chance; and• Comprehensive compliance with the Code related tousing external organisations to fund the Charity;• Guaranteed prizes (3rd, 4th, 5th): 1 in 243 chance,based on current lottery size of c.8.5K chances and35 prizes.• Our whistleblowing policy covers how staff orvolunteers can report a concern about our activities;andProceedsIn the 2023 calendar year, based on its previous lotteryscheme, £285K was received in lottery proceeds:• The Charity has a policy in place that promotesresponsible gambling and deters irresponsiblegambling. It also has a vulnerable people policy,protecting members of the public from behaviourthat:• Prizes were previously paid by the ELM; it is thereforeestimated that 5% of the proceeds will now be spenton prizes;» Is an unreasonable intrusion on a person’s privacy;» Is unreasonably persistent; or» Places undue pressure on a person to give money orother property.• The complaints policy sets out the process forpromptly responding to any complaint about ourwork.
