How did we do?Being our best in all we doWe are continuing to invest in our sta昀昀 and develop our governanceso we can have the biggest impact for King’s patients.Establishing our Grants CommitteeListening to staff survey feedbackWe held our first Grants Committee meeting inJuly 2023, with two further meetings followinglater in 2023/24. Chaired by Professor Jon Cohen,a long-standing Trustee of the Charity and, untilJanuary 2024, a non-executive director at King’s, theCommittee provides more detailed expert review ofgrants between £50K and £250K (previously reviewedby the Board of Trustees). The new Committee notonly improves the efficiency of our grant making butenables our Board to operate more effectively.During the year we continued to refine our hybridworking practices, with 91% of staff agreeing orstrongly agreeing that they had the tools requiredto work effectively both in the office and at home. With most staff working remotely for part of theweek, it was particularly important to build oursense of team through regular meetings andopportunities to connect formally and informally, for example through lunches in the office, teamaway days or social activities. It was pleasing tosee this reflected in survey feedback.Improving systems and processesManaging our finances carefullyDuring the course of the year, we conducted plannedinternal audits on cybersecurity, payroll and HRprocesses, having audited risk management andgrants management over the first two years of ourstrategic cycle. While the audits found no majorconcerns, we have worked through recommendationsto ensure our processes are as robust as possible. Our work this year included developing our keyperformance indicators andlong-range financial plans. We also completedtendering forexternal auditand investmentmanagement.Boosting staff wellbeingIn June 2023, we launched a new staff wellbeinginitiative, giving each participating Charity teammember £25 a month to spend on the wellbeingplatform, Heka. From plants and compost tophysiotherapy and Fitbits, the contribution fromthe Charity encourages staff to pursue wellbeingactivities they might not otherwise have taken part in.I used the wellbeing voucher topurchase a bowel cancer screening testa昀琀er a close friend of mine died…itcost me two vouchers but gave me realpeace of mind.”22S U P P O R T K I N G S .O R G .U KThanksto thiswellbeingvoucher I’vebeen able to try myhand at candle makingand lino printing, as well asplanting peonies and purchasingan erasable notebook.
