Charles Cannon started the St Ives Music & Drama Society (SIMADS) in 1935 with musicals in the Corn Exchange. Affiliated to NODA
(National Operatic and Dramatic Association), it is one of 200 societies in the Eastern area. SIMADS puts on two productions a year in
the Burgess Hall and visits community centres and old people’s homes with cabarets and old-tyme music halls. They also have
extensive costume hire facilities and run their own website, www.simads.co.uk. Their autumn 2002 show was Hello Dolly!
Above (from a colour negative): Kimberley Grayce is ‘Dolly’ seen here with members of the cast at the costume photo-shoot.
Top right (from a colour slide): Chris Wickes, an expert seamstress, makes most of the costumes for the society. She has lived in
St Ives for 23 years, has three children one of whom is still at the St Ivo, and is a teaching assistant at Thorndown Infants School.
Bottom right (from a colour negative): Claire Booth and real-life fiancé Paul as the shy young lovers.
